A German plastics manufacturer will spend nearly $10 million to set up shop in Auburn, Ala.

ID Plastics LP will spend $9.8 million to create the company's first operations in the United States, according to Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey's office.

The Haiterbach, Germany-based company will start with production of its ID Pack sleeve, described as a foldable, returnable transportation container system used in various industries.

ID Plastics will branch out from there, according to an announcement from the state about the project.

Martin Hartl and Andreas Hartl, who are brothers, are beginning the Alabama operations to bring products already made by their other companies to America. Those other companies include Durotherm Plastics, a thermoformer, and Infinex Group, an extruder.

Those two companies employ about 600 in southwest Germany.

The brothers decided to establish operations in the United States after years of doing business with customers in that country, the governor's office said.

"German technology made in the U.S.A. ... that's the perfect combination, the way we see it," Andreas Hartl said in a statement. "This was the foundation for the ID Pack collapsible container system."

Durotherm has production locations in Haiterbach, Germany; Sennwald, Switzerland, and Krupka, Czech Republic, according to the company's website. Durotherm was formed in 1968, has 378 employees and annual sales of 55 million euros.

Infinex Group, also based in Haiterbach, also has a sales and warehousing location in Toronto. The company makes two brands of corrugated plastic sheeting, Kibo and Triplex.

Triplex, according to the Infinex website, are three-layer structured core polypropylene panels that are welded together. The Kibo brand are manufactured using what the company calls "an efficient single-step process" and offers three different geometries for its cores.

Infinex also makes ISO-Drain, dimpled plastic sheeting for drainage, ventilation and physical protection applications.
